Throwback to the Summer Community Games

Wolverhampton Community Games Baton Relay

In the spirit of the Commonwealth Games, Wolverhampton is set to hold its very own Community Games for schools. The idea is for students in the city to experience the sports and activities of the Commonwealth. As a part of this event, a Community Games Baton has been making its way around schools in Wolverhampton. Students from each school have been selected to be baton bearers and run with the baton to deliver it to the next school in town. In December, St Matthias School received the baton from students at Holy Rosary Catholic Primary School and continued it's journey by running with the baton to Eastfield Primary School.

To mark the occasion, we created a spectacular event to welcome the students from Holy Rosary Catholic Primary School who arrived to a backdrop of claps, cheers, specially created banners and our wonderful school drummers. The baton was then passed to Alfie Carter – our very own official Queen’s community Baton bearer for the Commonwealth Games! After a quick photo call, Alfie ran with the baton to deliver it to Eastfield Primary School. He was ably accompanied by a group of students that had been selected for their sporting excellence and/or their contribution to wider school life. They left to applause, cheers, and music!

Well done to all our wonderful staff and students who came together to make this a fantastic experience for all involved!
