Y7/8 Basketball
Our year 7&8 Basketball team played a double header, league and NBA game against Moseley park this afternoon. Due to absences, we only had 6 players, but all gave there all throughout the game. Both teams started the first quarter slowly although we were having more of the ball and creating the most chances. At the break it was us that lead 2-0. In the second quarter the game continued to go the same way with us creating the majority of chances. Tom came on and started the quarter with a 3 pointer. The game flowed from end to end and we ended up at half time 7-2. The third quarter followed a similar pattern us dominating in terms of shots and even had the luxury of one of Moseley’s lads scoring an own Basket! The final quarter we were on the back foot with Moseley pressing to close the gap. It did get a little nervy towards the end, but the boys held on for a deserved 15-12 win in our 2nd league from 2 and first NBA game. The boys represented the school impeccably as usual and did themselves proud. A special mention to Tino, year 11, who arrived and asked if he could referee. Tino did a superb job. Jemeres, year 11, also helped out with the scoring and was a great help.
Year 8 Athletics
Tonight, we took a group of our Year 8's to Aldersley for their athletics indoor competition. The boys smashed their running events, finishing first in their leg of races for 3 out of 4! Special mentions to Marcel and Jeldi for providing serious firepower and speed in their individual and team relay races. The boys also put up some very competitive scores in the field events such as long jump and balancing. Special mention - this was Ebrahim’s first event/fixture with the school, to which he couldn't control his excitement!
The girls were also a massive credit to the school, sticking together as a squad and competing very well against the other schools. Haaydian and Summer were the notable stars of their running events, putting in a great shift to finish 2nd and 3rd in their legs.
Once again the group represented the school brilliantly and behaved so well and competed even better!
Y7/8 Girls Football
Tonight, was our second week of the City Wolverhampton Girls football tournament and after a shaky start last week the girls really did pick it up this week!!
We drew the first game 0-0 to a strong Highfields side with Lilly making some excellent saves to keep a clean sheet. Our first point on the board!
Second game, we really looked at trying to pile the pressure on when we were attacking, and it really paid off. We won 3-0 against SWBA with Heaydien scoring a hat trick with some calm finishes under pressure!
Third match, we kept it tight for the first five minutes and after making 4 subs we really piled the pressure on and won 2-0 with Heaydien scoring 2 goals.
The girls worked hard, some great energy in the midfield from Georgia, Summer and Ilarnah, we really looked tighter at the back with Lacey J, Keira W, Demi D, Vanessa M and Izzy B. We introduced a new player tonight also Assel N who looked a little shy but grew in confidence when she got comfortable. Great effort overall keeping a clean sheet throughout and not losing a game tonight! Great effort girls, well done!!
PE Ambassadors
Our PE ambassadors led a KS1 multi skills activity festival in the sports hall. We had three feeder schools turned up and they loved it. Our leaders were fantastic and led each event brilliantly. They showed great leadership skills and enthusiasm which really inspired the youngsters to give it their best. We are really proud of them!! Ambassadors will be attending primary schools in the summer and to deliver sport activity sessions to further develop their leadership skills and sports delivery. Each primary school in attendance said they would love for our leaders to do that - which is great!!
