Girls football tournament 24.11.22

Tonight, our year 9/10 girls participated in their weekly tournament. Sadly, rain cancelled the tournament after two fixtures.

In game 1, we played our toughest team so far SWBA A and held our own until the last few minutes when they scored! The girls were very happy with their efforts to match them for most the game.

In game 2, we played SWBA B and we won 2-0. Fantastic effort from the girls, especially in the weather. Two goals from Bethan 🙌🏻

St Matthias School Lionesses

An update about our girls who have recently been invited to Wolverhampton District Football trials: Haeydien has had two weeks of training and has already represented the district and played two matches against Barnsley and Liverpool. The coach is confident that she has so much potential which they want to work on. Illarnah went to her first trial last night but trained with Y8’s instead of her year group. Coaches were very impressed and have invited her to the Y7 team training. Fantastic news for both!

Girls football tournament 30.11.22

Tonight, our girls fought hard in the last round of their weekly tournament.

We played against 3 very strong teams - Moseley Park A, WGHS A and SWBA A. All these teams are above us in the league and it was imperative we tried to get a result. We came away with three 0-0 draws and one loss 1-0. The girls defensively were superb and feel that the years of experience they have gained from representing the school has paid off. We had many chances to score and hit the post on multiple occasions and sadly couldn't convert! We have finished 4th out of 8 which is superb, massive progress from recent years! The defensive side of their game has developed massively.

We have a cup game on Monday - hopefully, we can get a result to go through to the next round!

Proud of this group is an understatement - the progress they have made has been fantastic and their development as a team has been superb! They have represented us as they always do, excellently! And most of all they have done it with a smile on their face!

Year 9/10 Basketball

We had our first basketball city league fixture tonight against Moreton. Very tight contested match ending up us losing in overtime 26-20. The group fought hard but it was clear with lack of training they were very rusty in both their laying up and defence. A big change for most of the group as they have moved up from year 8 to the year 9/10 league and this was proven tonight - Moreton being all year 10 tall lads.

The group will learn from this and progress as the fixtures come thick and fast with our next fixture being at home against Heath Park. As always, they fought their hearts out and represented the school brilliantly. Big shoutout to Tristan who bet me he would score a three pointer with which he did - I owe him some commendations for that!

Player of the match goes to two players - Captain Evanas for his sheer determination and Hargurleen for his relentless up and down work rate.
