Year 8 students have been developing their food preparation and cooking skills this half term by creating pea and mint falafel.

The recipe originated from Food a Fact of Life (https://www.foodafactoflife.org.uk) and it was a new addition to the recipes we use in school. It was an opportunity for students to prepare a dish that is vegetarian, packed with protein and fibre and cheap to make and hopefully one that students could recreate at home. They enjoyed being able to present their 'Happy Meals’ using some simple garnish and accompaniments.

Year 11 Hospitality and Catering students visited The Littleton Restaurant, located in The Hub which is part of Walsall College. It was an opportunity to visit the acclaimed bistro restaurant for lunch where the students’ sampled dishes from the interesting and varied menu. The AA Rosette winning chef uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients and the empty plates were proof that the Year 11’s enjoyed their dining experience!

The food is prepared and cooked by Hospitality and Catering students studying at the college and gives our students an opportunity to see and consider different presentation techniques in real life but also to provide menu ideas for their own practical exam.
