Today our students in year 10 visited Aston University for a campus experience. The day began in a lecture theatre where students were introduced to Aston University and some of the courses that the University specialises in. Biomedical Engineering, Audiology, Law and Games Design and Development were some of the options explored. Students were told about, and shown, the fantastic facilities available to those choosing to study at Aston University including the opportunity to design, build and race your own car.
Students explored what a University Degree is and understood the concept of single or joint honours degrees. The length of a degree was discussed including the option to complete a placement year or a year abroad in their 3rd year of study. They also learnt about the importance of their future pathways – GCSE and A Levels/Vocational qualifications. They had the opportunity to explore prospectuses and look at options available to them.
Students were then given an interactive campus tour. During the tour they saw a range of student facilities including the library, food hall, student union building, sports centre and accommodation. They were able to ask lots of questions about life as a student and what it is like to live on campus.
St Matthias students represented the school wonderfully and fully embraced the experiences they were given today. It was fantastic day for all involved!
