The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Sandra Samuels OBE, has made a special visit to St Matthias School as a part of our Black History Month celebrations. She came to share her journey to becoming the first black female Mayor in Wolverhampton and to find out more about our school community.
The Mayoress visited students in Sociology where she shared her stories as a part of the Wind rush generation, spoke to the students about her role and heard more about the ambitions of our students in the future. The Mayoress then sat down for a discussion with the year 9 student ambassadors. The ambassadors spoke confidently about life at St Matthias School and current projects they were working on. The mayoress was impressed with the children’s activism and commitment to our school community. Together they enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea of cakes and refreshments.
It was a privilege to welcome Mayoress to the school and it was lovely to see her speaking to the children about what she does. It was our first time welcoming her to the school, and we hope to see her again in the future!
